In July 2017, Mel Gibson put up his old-world-style manor in Malibu for sale. At the time, a prospective buyer would have to cough up $17.5 million to get the property off his hands. However, such a buyer was never in the offing, and Gibson kept his brick, stucco, stone, and wood-clad residence.
Currently, the actor and filmmaker is on the market again, selling the landed estate for around $3 million less than he would have received for it in 2017. Listing the piece of property for $14.495 million, Gibson is hopeful to find the perfect buyer.
Privacy is at the heart of this mansion as dense foliage and a driveway gate shield it from prying eyes on the main road in addition to the hustle and bustle of the locale. The residence spans over a 5.49-acre piece of land and offers fantastic views of the gorges and the ocean. The home itself is anything but pale in comparison to the entire estate, standing tall at an impressive 6,578-square-foot space.
Making up these feet are five bedrooms with four and a half bedrooms to boot, spread across two levels. Additionally, a two-bedroom guesthouse stands separately, built atop a detached 3-car garage.
Attention to Detail
On the inside, the house has a shiny and colorful theme that is welcoming and pleasing to the eye. The traditional detailing does a pretty good job at seeing to this resplendence. Hardwood floors, exposed wood beams, a number of massive fireplaces, forge iron chandeliers are only few of the luxurious features of the mansion – what more could a real estate enthusiast ask for?
The common rooms are well-lit, receiving ample Malibu sunshine thanks to the large French doors that lead from one area of the house to another. In a way, they provide outdoor living on the inside, but they also open to the grounds on the residence, revealing a lush green compound outside.
Surrounding the property is a blanket of native plantings and eucalyptus trees that enhance the beauty of the majestic structure. A marble-topped center island is among the prominent features of the French-inspired kitchen, as well as a wine rack underneath it. Picture windows provide breath-taking views that extend as far as the Pacific.
So grand is the manor that it has its own private wing, where the master suite is enshrined. Two walk-in closets are easily the suite’s most impressive feature, but an immersive bathroom with a tub reigning supreme at the center of the room is in hot pursuit.
A classy chandelier hangs from the well-cut ceiling in the master bedroom, complimenting the room’s benched seating that borders a wall made up entirely of windows. With the chandelier and the seats, the place is perfect for a cozy night time reading.
The backyard is as impressive as every other corner of the estate, displaying several grassy lawns, a vine-wrapped pergola, two ocean-view swimming pools, and a pool-house and gym.
The award-winning actor hopes to make some profit if he gets to sell this residence (which is just but one of his properties in Malibu) seeing as he offloaded it from Duchovny and Leoni for $11.5 million more than ten years ago.
