U.S. President Donald Trump purchased shares in Elon Musk’s SpaceX in June, giving him a personal financial stake in a major U.S. government contractor. The investment was valued between $15,001 and $50,000, according to a financial disclosure released publicly in August.
Trump bought the SpaceX shares on June 23. He signed the financial disclosure on August 12, and officials made it public on August 22. The purchase was one of more than 1,000 stock transactions Trump reported for June.
Federal disclosure forms report asset values in ranges, so the exact amount Trump paid for SpaceX shares remains unclear. The filing confirms only that the investment fell between $15,001 and $50,000.

SpaceX priced the largest-ever U.S. IPO on June 12, placing the company’s valuation at $1.77 trillion. The company operates across space launches, satellite services, and artificial intelligence.
White House Response
The investment comes as the Trump administration makes decisions that could influence SpaceX’s business. SpaceX serves as a U.S. military contractor and regularly works with federal agencies for approvals and contracts.
White House spokesman Davis Ingle told Reuters that independent third-party financial institutions manage Trump’s portfolio. He said those institutions replicate “recognized indexes, such as the Schwab 1000.”
“Neither President Trump nor any member of his family has any ability to direct, influence or provide input regarding how the portfolio is invested or when investments are bought or sold,” Ingle said.
The administration has also taken steps involving the commercial space industry. On Thursday, Trump directed his team to help sharply increase the number of U.S. commercial space launches. SpaceX remains a major participant in that market.
Kelly Loeffler’s SpaceX Gains
Trump is not the only administration figure connected financially to Musk’s companies. U.S. Small Business Administration leader and Trump cabinet member Kelly Loeffler earned millions from SpaceX’s IPO, according to earlier Reuters reporting.

Loeffler initially invested in xAI, Musk’s artificial intelligence and social media company. xAI later merged with SpaceX. She made another investment after Trump nominated her to lead the SBA.
PitchBook analyst Franco Granda estimated that Loeffler’s first xAI investment could have been worth between $7 million and $2.6 billion on the IPO date. Her second investment could have been worth between $2.2 million and $25.4 million.
What the Disclosure Shows
Trump’s filing confirms a direct financial connection to SpaceX, but the disclosure does not reveal the exact purchase amount. The reported range reflects the way federal officials must declare asset values.
The investment also highlights the financial interests surrounding Musk’s companies as the administration makes policy decisions affecting the U.S. space sector.
Trump’s June purchase placed between $15,001 and $50,000 of SpaceX shares in his reported portfolio. The disclosure provides the investment range but not the exact figure. It also comes as SpaceX remains closely involved with the U.S. government, military programs, and the expanding commercial launch industry.
